Nika joined us in June 2017, bringing with her nearly a decade of experience as a writer and editor focusing on environmental justice. As a journalist, she's reported on environmental health stories close to home and in far-flung locales: from visiting indigenous communities downstream of tar sands mining in Alberta, Canada, to exploring the prevalence of PCBs in public schools throughout the U.S. In all her work, she seeks to highlight the human stories related to toxic chemicals in our environment.
Previously, Nika was a staff writer and assistant editor at the progressive news site Common Dreams. After graduating with an MFA in nonfiction writing and literary translation from Columbia University in 2015, she also freelanced as a writer, editor, and German translator. She graduated from Oberlin College with a BA in comparative literature in 2009.
When not in the office, Nika can most often be found in her beloved backyard garden in Bath, Maine, where she is working on replenishing native Maine plants and doing her best to grow organic vegetables from seed.
